Netherlands, November 2023.

Netherlands has so much to offer the landscape-photographer. Although a small country, with no mountains and no waterfalls, both the coastline and the forests are world-class. Granted, I have a soft spot for beech-forests, but if that what you are after, Netherlands comes second to none.

I recently returned from my 4th visit since 2018. I have learned that the first week of November often brings nice autumn-colors and chances of fog. In 2021 I hit the jackpot with a full day of fog and another day with nice, misty conditions and break-through sunlight. Of course, I was hoping for the same this year, but conditions turned out to be a bit more difficult. Autumn-colors were late this year, and it was only towards the end of my week things really exploded. Furthermore, we saw no trace of real fog, only one day with a slight mist visible only backlit. But the woodlands are still just as beautiful. I just love the meditative state that comes with wandering around in a huge forest with all the time in the world and no specific goal but to find compositions.

I also spent one day by the coast that proved to be very rewarding. Strong winds, scattered showers and a sun that came and went all the time, proved to be optimal conditions for the scenes down in Zeeland. I have processed most of my images by now, and assembled a small gallery here. Hope you like them.

All images captured with Hasselblad X2D with a variety of XCD-lenses. I also used the adapted Mamiya 645 105-210mm zoom a lot in the forests. I also used the H&Y Revoring with polarizer and ND-filter a lot e.g. for the coastline long-exposures displayed here.
